Gael Monfils defeated Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals for his second time at the U.S. Open and will meet Roger Federer in Flushing Meadows New York on Tuesday.
The 20th-seeded Frenchman broke the Bulgarian three times to assure himself of a quarterfinals berth, 7-5, 7(8)-6(6), 7-5, in a match that lasted two hours and 24 minutes.

The 28-year-old Monfils, who just celebrated his birthday Monday, converted 14 services aces and 29 winners to dispose Maria Sharapova's hubby to enter the quarters.
"It was a very poor performance from me," the 23-year-old Dimitrov said. "Didn't play as close to the way I want to ... Just everything went the opposite way today."
"I think I played good. I'm in better position today," Monfils said. "I just play maybe solid today, but I'm still the same."
The Frenchman's best performance was in 2008 when he reached the semis of the French Open but lost to then top seed Federer in four sets that he will be facing in the next round.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion Federer advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets.
The second-seeded Federer didn't waste time in his pursuit of an 18th major title as he produced eight services aces and 36 winners to advance to the quarters, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2, in a match that lasted just under two hours.
The Cincinnati Masters champion has never played the Spaniard but said that "He's not the typical Spaniard with a lot of topspin," which the Swiss took advantage of as Agut had problems receiving, converting only 29 of 87 receptions.
Monfils is 2-7 against Federer and said "When you have a chance ... to go against a big legend ... That's why every day I wake up and I wish I could play those matches."
