AI named UNU picks all four winners at the Kentucky Derby; Vindicates ‘Swarm Intelligence’

No human's ever picked the first to fourth place winners in the Kentucky Derby or in any other major race. But a non-human -- an artificial intelligence (AI) platform with the name of "UNU" -- did just that at the Kentucky Derby and won $10,842 on a $20 dollar bet for its human inventor, Dr. Louis Rosenberg Ph.D.

Nyquist ridden by Mario Gutierrez won the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs last May 7.

Swarm Intelligence has arrived in its newest incarnation.

UNU predicted the first, second, third and fourth horses in the Derby at 540-1 odds. To do so, it used a unique form of AI called "Swarm Intelligence" whose goal is to amplify and not replace human intelligence. Swarm Intelligence basically tries to make us humans smarter.

"When I saw the horses cross the line, I knew I was witnessing a milestone in the predictive abilities of AI, as well as a harbinger to future changes in how the world views sports gambling," said Dr. Rosenberg.

Dr. Rosenberg is founder and CEO of Unanimous AI and you can access its website here. He believes human swarming might be able to amplify human intelligence and protect us against the coming onslaught of "bad AI."

UNU is more correctly described as a "platform computer interface for human swarming" and has enjoyed great success. It predicted 11 of 15 winners of this year's Oscars with a human swarm, for example. Using complex algorithms, UNU seeks to find the correct answer through compromise.

Swarm intelligence deals with natural and artificial systems consisting of many individuals that coordinate using decentralized control and self-organization. Great examples of organisms that profit from swarm intelligence are ants and termites.

You can cooperate with UNU using swarm intelligence.

A group of people login to an UNU online forum accessible at this address using their smartphones or computers. At the start of each session, all participants are given a question and a number of possible answers.

Each participant controls a graphical magnet he can move around a computer screen to drag a puck to the answer he thinks is correct. The puck can only fall on one answer. The group has 60 seconds to collectively agree on a decision that best suits them all.

Dr. Rosenberg hopes to move UNU beyond gambling and into health care and politics, among other sectors.

Unanimous AI develops technologies for swarm intelligence, allowing groups to combine their thoughts and feelings in real-time, to answer questions, make decisions or just have fun.
