A port of the open-world sandbox game "Minecraft" is set to be released Friday on Microsoft's Xbox One console.

Gamers can opt to buy the game from retailers or directly from Microsoft's Xbox Live, the platform's online game market.

Those that already own the Xbox 360 version of the game can upgrade to the Xbox One version for a smaller fee compared to the full retail price.

"Minecraft," the game that lets players collect resources and build structures as simple as a shed to complex ones such as the Hogwarts castle from the "Harry Potter" franchise, was expected to be released last August on the next-generation consoles.

The Xbox One version of the game offers a world the game's developers hinted to be 36 times bigger than the world offered on the Xbox 360, in addition to the various downloadable content and available add-ons.

If the user gets tired of shaping the landscape alone, he can invite up to three more players in the computer-generated world to collaborate on the same platform in a split-screen configuration.

If the gamer has a subscription to Xbox Live Gold and goes online, the user can invite up to seven more players to join in the fun.

The Xbox One port of "Minecraft" is set to retail for US$19.99 and can be bought with an Xbox Gift Card or through credit card.

Owners of the version belonging to the earlier Xbox 360 console will be able to upgrade the game to the next generation console by parting with US$4.99.

Although the port has been successfully created on the Xbox One, fans of "Minecraft" with a PlayStation 4 will have to waiting for a longer time as the version on the console failed on official tests, according to the Pixel Dynamo.
