Dieting is a Solution to Climate Change

Want to avoid climate change? Try dieting.
Researchers found out healthier diets and food waste reduction can help mitigate the destructive events caused by climate change.
They also believe eating healthier foods can ensure sustainable food production.
Bojana Bajzeli from Cambridge University said that as people eat more meat, many people cultivate more animal feedstock than livestock.

He explained that it's important to find ways to achieve global food security without expanding crop and pastureland.
Bajzeli said it's important for people to choose the food they eat because food production is the main driver of biodiversity loss.
It's also a large contributor to climate change and pollution, he added.
To come up with their findings, researchers analyzed land sustainability and agricultural biomass data that compares different scenarios of possible greenhouse emissions in 2050.
Researchers believe the normal western diet allows people to excessively consume food.
They said that when they tested a scenario where every country in the world eats properly, there was a significant reduction in the man-made pressures faced by the environment.
Researchers used an average balanced diet of two 85 grams of red meat and five eggs per week with a portion of poultry a day.
Keith Richards, one of the researchers, said this isn't a radical vegetarian argument but rather an argument about eating the right portions of meat to maintain a healthy and balanced diet.
He also believes that proper health education helps people maintain a healthy lifestyle, greatly reducing pressures on the environment.
Pete Smith, one of the researchers, explained that people should have a serious take about changing their food consumption because this can de-carbonize energy emission, thereby helping avoid climate change.
Bajzelj explained that cutting food waste and moderating meat consumption doesn't only result in a healthier life but can also help save the planet.
