Australian actress and comedian Rebel Wilson is suing magazine publisher Bauer Media for defamation over articles that claimed that she was a liar.
The Pitch Perfect actress filed a writ in the Victorian Supreme Court on Monday claiming that articles published by several Bauer Media magazines, including the Australian Women's Weekly, OK Magazine and New Weekly, in print and online, portrayed her as a liar, damaged her reputation, humiliated and embarrassed her and hurt her career.

Wilson's writ claims that a Woman's Day piece published in May last year, titled "Just who is the REAL Rebel?" depicted her in poor light and made her out to be a "serial liar who has invented fantastic stories in order to make it in Hollywood."
The article in question alleged that the 36-year-old lied about her age, her real name, background and the fact that she spent a year in Zimbabwe.
A separate article published in Women's Weekly questioned Wilson's age and accused the comedian of lying to David Letterman about where she grew up in Australia.
"OMG I'm actually a 100 year old mermaid formerly known as "CC Chalice" ....thanks shady Australian press for your tall poppy syndrome x," Wilson tweeted at the time.
Wilson's writ states that after the articles were published, Wilson had "been gravely injured in her feelings, credit and reputation, has been humiliated and embarrassed and has suffered loss and damage."
Thorough her writ, Wilson also said that Bauer Media did not even get in touch with her for clarification before publishing the stories. Wilson is now suing for damages, claiming that she lost promised roles and was not offered others in the wake of the articles. In addition, she is seeking a permanent injunction that prohibits the company from publishing the articles along with interest and costs.
"If and when it is served, we will take the opportunity to consider our defences," Bauer Media said in a statement to the Sydney Morning Herald. "It would not be appropriate for Bauer Media to comment further whilst this matter is before the court and the writ is yet to be served."
