After releasing a teaser earlier in August, electronics manufacturer Asus officially revealed the ZenWatch, its first device in the category of wrist wearables.

Asus, which is based in Taiwan, made the reveal on Tuesday at the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin electronics show in Germany.

The smartwatch runs Android Wear, Google's Android operating system designed for smart watches and other wearables. ZenWatch is similar to other devices and sports a simple rectangular watch face.

Asus seems to have put more effort into the design of the ZenWatch compared to other smart watches such as the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live.

ZenWatch is equipped with a 1.63-inch screen with 320-by-320 pixel resolution Amoled touchscreen; a 2.5D curved glass front; a stainless steel case; nicely designed accents and an Italian leather strap that lets the wearer feel the device is a traditional watch.

The wearer can also pick from over 100 digital watch faces and themes for the device.

Asus, unfortunately, didn't divulge the smartwatch's specs during the company's presentation at the electronics show. But it did show off numerous extra software features that were added on top of the plain Android Wear features.

These features include "Tap Tap," which allows the user to toggle an assigned function on the paired device by double-tapping the face.

There's also "Watch Unlock" that lets the wearer unlock his tablet or smart phone by touching the watch's face.

The ZenWatch also has self-explanatory features such as the ""Find My Phone," "Cover to Mute," "Presentation Control" and "Remote Camera."

Asus' smartwatch could cost around US$260, which is more expensive than its more established rivals. ZenWatch could his store shelves between late fall and early winter.
