Men’s Volleyball World Championship: China Wins over Mexico, Top Seeds Brazil and Russia Shut out Opponents

China won their match over Mexico in four sets while top seeds Brazil and Russia shut out their opponents at the Men's Volleyball World Championship in Poland on Wednesday.

Mexico came out aggressive at the start of the match as they pulled off to win the first set behind team captain Carlos Guerra's attacks over the net but China quickly came back in the second set to tie the match at one set apiece.

Zhi Yuan had another stellar performance pumping out 30 points to lead China to victory over the next two sets 20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20.

Yuan converted 24 attack points and six service aces added to the 31 points he made against Egypt to lead the tournament with a total of 61 points.

Guerra top scored for his team with 18 points followed by Daniel Vargas with 14.

"I know that Yuan Zhi played extremely well in this match and he showed it with his excellent scoring," China coach Xie Guochen said. "I am also satisfied with other members of the team they played well too."

In other Pool C matches, second seeded Russia came out victorious in their match against Egypt 25-22, 25-15, 25-15.

Dmitriy Ilinykh scored 13 points to lead Russia followed by Nikolay Pavlov with 11 points while Ahmed Abdelhay top scored for Egypt with 10.

Bulgaria suffered a tough loss against Canada as Gavin Shmitt and John Gordon Perrin combined for 40 points to lift the Canadian past the Bulgarian nationals to a five-set win 17-25, 25-17, 25-20, 24-26, 15-8.

Tsvetan Sokolov top scored for Bulgaria with 22 points but his efforts was not enough as Bulgaria fell to third spot in the overall standings while China and Russia are now tied in first place.

Defending champions Brazil also saw action on Wednesday as they clobbered Tunisia in straight sets 25-18, 25-10, 25-17.

Ricardo Lucarelli Santos led the Brazilians with 12 points while Marouen Garci scored 8 points for Tunisia.
