Whitney Houston's estate has cancelled a duet between Christina Aguilera and a hologram of the late singer on The Voice.

The performance, which was scheduled to air on the reality television singing competition's upcoming season 10 finale next week, was axed after the hologram technology wasn't up to the mark and failed to meet expectations.

"We are so appreciative of the opportunity for the Whitney Houston hologram to appear on NBC's The Voice with a talent pairing as extraordinary as Christina Aguilera and Whitney Houston," Pat Houston, the executor of Whitney's estate told Entertainment Tonight. "We were looking to deliver a ground-breaking duet performance for the fans of both artists."

"Holograms are new technology that take time to perfect, and we believe with artists of this iconic caliber, it must be perfect," he added. "Whitney's legacy and her devoted fans deserve perfection. After closely viewing the performance, we decided the hologram was not ready to air. We have much respect and appreciation for Christina, and she was absolutely flawless."

Earlier this month, Aguilera expressed her excitement about the finale but remained tight-lipped on the details. "I am sworn to secrecy," she during an interview on The Voice. "I can't say anything, but I'm very excited about the finale. Very exciting things happening."

The planned performance may have been cancelled but video footage of the duet leaked online, showing the Lady Marmalade hitmaker singing a medley of Whitney's greatest hits alongside a hologram version of the late singer.
