Typhoon Utor:158,000 Evacuated as S.China

BEIJING - Thousands of people were evacuated as super typhoon hit southern China last Wednesday after Asian Financial Center and sinking cargo ship shut down.
Typhoon Utor with its high winds and torrential rain made the establishments ,schools and offices across the Guandong province closed.
Around 98,000 were transferred to a safe place on the island of Hainan. Flights and ferry services were canceled, stranding thousands of travelers. More than 60,000 were evacuated in Maoming city.
There were no available immediate reports of the injuries and damages that happened because of the storm. The storm sustained gale force winds of 145 kilometers (90 miles) per hour.
In Hong Kong,schools,courts and offices were temporarily shut down. The stock market stopped their trading. This has made the busy Chinese commercial hub into eerier calm state. Flights,bus and commuter ferry temporarily stopped their operations.
Hong Kong and Guandong helicopter search and rescue team saved 21 crew members from the "Trans Summer" a bulk carrier, after it started listing in waters southwest of Hong Kong, local broadcaster RTHK said. According to China's official Xinhua News Agency said it was carrying 57,000 tons of nickel ore.
Although six people in Hong Kong were reported to be injured, the whole city in had generally been safe with injuries and damages.
Dozens of fishermen were missing after the storm, but most have since returned home, officials said.
"As of now, we don't have communication (with the three towns) and the roads are not passable, even to motorcycles, due to landslides, rockslides and uprooted trees," said Rey Balido, spokesman for the national disaster agency.
