Anushka Sharma has opened up about her lip job, which became the subject of controversy in 2014.

The Sultan actress' made an appearance on an episode of Karan Johar's talk-show Koffee with Karan with fuller lips, which led to the 28-year-old actress being trolled on Twitter about undergoing lip surgery.

Anushka, who features on the cover of Vogue magazine, has now addressed the controversy in an interview with the magazine, saying that she is only "human and not perfect" and her fuller lips were a result of lip-enhancing tools and make-up, which her role in Bombay Velvet demanded.

"I have nothing to hide. So when I spoke about my lip job, a lot of people called me brave for coming out, she said. "But I did what I had to (for my role in Bombay Velvet). I'm not going to lie and say I didn't. I had to take ownership. I wanted fans to know that I'm human and not perfect."

After being trolled on social media with harsh tweets, jokes and memes following her appearance on Koffee with Karan two years ago, Anushka released the following statement:

"For a short while now I have been using a temporary lip enhancing tool and that along with make up techniques (I have learnt over the years) is the reason why there might be a change in the appearance of my lips. I have by no means gone 'under the knife' or done any kind of 'plastic surgery' or undergone any intrusive procedure."
