The 22-year-old Rupa struck several playful stances as she posed proudly without any make-up alongside her friends, Sonam, Laxmi, Rita, and Chanchal.
"I told them to be natural. I didn't do any makeup or editing. I told them, you look beautiful and you have to be the way you are," Saharan, who volunteered at the Stop Acid Attacks charity, told the Associated Press.
Saharan is currently working on a documentary about the lives of surviving acid attack victims.
The images of Rupa and her friends went viral over social media after it was posted on the charity's Facebook page last month.
In 2008, when she was just 15-years-old, Rupa's stepmother threw acid on her face while she was asleep and watched her writhe in pain, causing her extensive damage.
The incident occurred after the two had argued about her stepmother refusing to pay for her marriage expenses.
The horrific occurrence left the young woman suffering not only with the injuries but with her self-confidence as well.
After the incident, she decided to stop meeting people and her wedding was called off. Reportedly, for three years following the attack, Rupa wouldn't even look at herself in a mirror.
The photo shoot is aiming to give her funding for her dream of becoming a full-fledged designer.
Rupa's friends also experienced similar fates; also 15 when it happened, Laxmi was attacked by her brother's 32-year-old friend because she refused to marry him. After years of courageously speaking against such violence, she was recognized by U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama and was bestowed the International Women of Courage Award.
Sisters Chanchal and Sonam were attacked by a group of men who had been badgering them in their village. Their assailants decided to pour acid on them while they were sleeping.
22-year-old Ritu was assaulted by her cousin after an argument over property.
All of the girls' attackers have been convicted of the crime, though in most cases in India similar assaults go unpunished.
