As reported by Taiwan Today, the country, under the leadership of Tsai, has proposed to set aside these disputes "so as to enable joint development."
Being Taiwan's new president, Tsai has cited four elements that will embody her leadership.
"By existing political foundations, I refer to a number of key elements," she said. "The first element is the fact of the 1992 talks between the two institutions representing each side across the strait, when there was joint acknowledgement of setting aside differences to seek common ground. This is a historical fact."
"The second element is the existing ROC constitutional order," Taiwan's new president Tsai Ing-wen continued to rundown." The third element pertains to the outcomes of over 20 years of negotiations and interactions across the strait. And the fourth relates to the democratic principle and prevalent will of the people of Taiwan."
The new leader also emphasized that the country will be "an indispensable partner for the international community" while being a "proactive communicator of peace."
"We will proactively participate in international economic and trade cooperation and integrate into important regional trade and commercial architecture," Taiwan's new president Tsai Ing-wen noted.
Apart from these key elements, she also vowed to strengthen the country's social safety net and achieve social fairness and justice.
It is worth noting that the new president is also the first lady president of Taiwan.
