Former teen matinee David Cassidy pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunken-driving charge last Wednesday. He agreed to the plea deal in order to avoid jail time.

Sentencing recommendations include 50 hours of community service and the installation of alcohol interlock ignition systems in the vehicles he owns in New York and Florida.

The alcohol interlock ignition system requires drivers to exhale into an alcohol-breath analyzer located on the car's dashboard. If the analyzer deems the driver incapable of driving or beyond the legal limit, he will be unable to start the automobile.

Cassidy will also be required to undergo a state-authorized treatment program for substance abuse.

Lucas Mihuta, Cassidy's lawyer, stated that the musician had already fulfilled treatment when he previously attended drug and alcohol counseling in Florida.

"I went through three months of rehab and then two more months of intensive alcohol outpatient (treatement). I'm in counseling three times a week, and I am blessed that I'm sober," Cassidy stated.
Michael Shanley, the Rensselaer County attorney prosecuting the case, agreed that Cassidy's previous treatment could be deemed satisfactory by the court.

The 64-year old "Partridge Family" star had a blood alcohol level of 0.10 when he was arrested last summer. The legal limit is 0.08.

Initially, the star was charged with a a felony count of driving while intoxicated. However, he lost the chance to enter a guilty plea for a much lesser offense in absentia when officials and prosecutors discovered that he was at a Saratoga racetrack instead of at his Florida home.

The case was adjourned to November 5 in order to give the judge apt time to review the case and render a final decision regarding sentencing.

In 2011, the singer was convicted of driving while intoxicated in Florida, and, consequently, his license was suspended. He also had to serve one year's probation.

Just this January, he was again arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Southern California.
