China Mobile Gains a Net Profit of 63.1 Billion yuan in First Half Year

August 15th, China Mobile Ltd. released its latest financial report of first half year. China Mobile is a Chinese state-owned telecommunication company that provides mobile voice and multimedia services through its nationwide mobile telecommunications network. The company is one of the largest mobile telecommunications companies by market capitalization today. It is listed on both the NYSE and the Hong Kong stock exchange.

According to the report, in the first half of 2013, the company's operation revenue rose 10% to 303.1 billion yuan (49.59 billion USD). And the net profit of China Mobile Ltd. rose to 63.1 billion yuan (10.3 billion USD), up 1.5% from a year earlier.
The financial report shows China Mobile maintains steady growth in operation revenue in the first half of 2013, among which, the company reported a 284.7 billion yuan revenue in communication services, representing a 6.8 percent increase from last year.
During the January-June period, data business of China Mobile contributed 95.4 billion yuan, up 25.5% over last year. Its proportion in the revenue of telecommunications service rose to 33.5%. Besides, wireless data traffic revenue grew 62.2% to 47.4 billion yuan (7.68 billion USD) in the first half of 2013, up from 29.2 billion yuan in the same period last year. Now, its proportion in the revenue of telecommunications service rose to 16.6%.
As for the profitability of China Mobile, the company's net profit is 63.1 billion yuan in the first half of 2013, up 1.5% from a year earlier. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) grew 0.5% to 123.7 billion yuan, and the EBITDA margin sank to 40.8% on competition, below the market consensus of 44%.
The financial report shows China Mobile has more than 740 million users. And the total minutes of calls reach 2.1376 trillion minutes; wireless data traffic grows 129% comparing with the same period last year.
In the first half of 2012, the net profit of China Mobile rose 1.5%. And in the first half of 2011, the net profit of China Mobile rose 6.3%. Based on the financial data of recent three years, we can figure out the company is still growing in a relatively slow rate.
