Producer and songwriter Skrillex has posted a video on social media showing how he collaborated with Justin Beiber to create the number one hit song "Sorry." The video was made in response to a lawsuit from Casey Daniel (aka White Hinterland), who claims that Beiber copyrighted her song "Ring the Bell" in his song "Sorry."

Copyright Infringement Allegations
On Thursday, White Hinterland revealed that she had sued Justin Bieber alongside Skrillex and other songwriters for copying the vocal riff featured in her song "Ring the Bell." White wrote on Facebook that the writers, producers, and performers of "Sorry" did not obtain permission to use her work. She decided to file for copyright infringement against all the parties involved.
The singer said that Bieber could have licensed her song for use in "Sorry," but he decided not to contact her. After a letter alleging infringement was sent to Bieber's representative and was ignored, White claims she was left with no choice but to file a lawsuit to protect her music and art.
Skrillex Demonstrates The Vocal Riff
Before Skrillex posted the video showing how "Sorry" was created, Diplo acknowledged the similarities between "Sorry" and "Ring the Bell" in an interview with TMZ. However, Skrillex posted a video late Friday afternoon on Twitter, showing how the hook was created.
Co-songwriter Julia Michaels and Skrillex manipulated the pitch and contorted the semitones of an acapella demo of "Sorry" to form the vocal melody. The result indeed resembled the opening notes of "Ring the Bell." However, Skrillex insists that they did not copy from White's song.
The Bieber-Skrillex collaboration came out in October 2015, more than a year after "Ring the Bell." Check out how Skrillex created the vocal riff in the video below.
