Heavy downpour in east China's Zhejiang Province triggered a landslide that left at least six people missing on Sunday.

Authorities in Jiande City said the landslide buried houses in a village and rescuers were still searching for the missing people as of this posting.

The six missing people were reportedly inside their houses when the heavy downpour softened the soil, triggering a landslide that buried the houses.

Reports were still sketchy although the local government said a team of rescuers have already been deployed in the area to look for the missing people.

Residents whose houses were not hit by the landslide were also told to evacuate as heavy downpour is expected to again batter south and east China in the coming days.

China's meteorological authority said more heavy rains are expected to occur in the southern and eastern part s of China.

The public have also been told to remain on alert for possible flashfloods and landslides.

Those who are leaving in landslide- and flashflood-prone areas have also been told to leave their houses and move to safer grounds.

Last week, 34 people were confirmed dead while one person remains missing after a landslide buried their houses in east China's Fujian province.

The landslide occurred at about 5a.m. on May 11 in Taining County and the fatalities were identified through DNA tests, according to the rescue headquarters.

According to a rescue official, about 100,000 cubic meters of mud and rock buried a temporary accommodation shed at a hydropower stations construction site.

The landslide, triggered by heavy downpour, also damaged offices and houses, authorities said.
