Qualcomm Unveils new Snapdragon Wear 1100 Smart Watch

Qualcomm has unveiled the new Snapdragon Wear 1100 smart watch at the Computex trade show held in Taiwan, according to Venturebeat.

Qualcomm's senior director and business lead Pankaj Kedia stated in an interview that "Snapdragon Wear 1100 is targeting purpose-built wearables, or those that are designed only around a few usage cases." He added that "these kinds of products do two to five things really well. They run a more targeted software environment, like Linux. The whole user experience is much more targeted around these use cases. They still require low power, high integration, small size, and a good connected experience."

The specifications of the Snapdragon include a CAT1 modem that will cater tp voice, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connection, LTE and 3G connection. A Qualcomm iZat engine that will utilize geofencing, a feature that utilizes global positioning or GPS. Linux-based applications can be integrated on the device. The Snapdragon Wear 1100 will target both young and elderly consumers, providing many different functions like child tracking and fitness tracking, according to AndroidCentral.

Four weeks ago, Qualcomm announced that there are 100 products with Qualcomm-based technology installed. The company also has 80 percent of the market share for Android.

Qualcomm not only unveiled its upcoming smart watch but also stated that it will reveal a new line of chips for wearable devices soon.

Qualcomm has not announced when shipment will begin for the Snapdragon Wear 1100. However, products with the chip installed are likely to make their way to the market soon, according to CNET.
