The defending NBA champions Golden State Warriors successfully completed a rare comeback from a 3-1 deficit and became the league's 10th squad to overcome the brink of elimination after they defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in the deciding Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals in front of a raucous crowd at the Oracle Arena on Monday.

With the victory, the team booked an NBA Finals rematch against the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs won the Eastern Conference Finals after overcoming the Toronto Raptors in six games.

Last season, the Cavaliers were just two games away from winning their first championship title. The Ohio-based club led the series 2-1, but the Warriors rallied and won three-straight games to wrap up the series and claimed their first NBA crown since 1975.  The 2016 NBA Finals series opener will be played in Oakland on Thursday.

"You appreciate how tough it is to get back here," Warriors starting point guard Stephen Curry said. "You've got to be appreciative of this accomplishment, and look forward to getting four more wins."

The Warriors, who were expected to reach the championship round of the league in a much easier way, were surprisingly tested after the Thunder won two-straight games at the Chesapeake Energy Arena following their Game 1 victory in the Bay Area. The 2015 NBA Kings were on the verge of being eliminated from the series before bouncing back.

"They won a world championship last year, and they've broken an NBA record, and people are already talking about it before the playoffs started, this may be the greatest team to ever lace them up in the history of the NBA," Oklahoma City Thunder Head Coach Billy Donovan said at a press conference after the game.
