World welterweight champion Kell Brook is in the hospital, after being stabbed Thursday during his holiday vacation in Tenerife.

According to a spokeswoman from the Spanish Guardia Civil, the 28-year-old boxer suffered stab wounds to his left leg and has lost a lot of blood as a result. He also sustained defense injuries to his arm during the 6 a.m. incident.

"He lost a lot of blood. There are no arrests at this time and the Guardia Civil are investigating," said the spokeswoman

On the other hand, his promoters claim that he is in stable condition and that the injuries were far from being life-threatening.

Brook was reportedly spending time with his pregnant partner, Lindsey before the incident. Afterwards, the boxer parted with his girlfriend and met with mutual friends. It is understood that he also spent time with his attacker.

Famously known with the moniker Special K, the unbeaten Sheffield fighter won the International Boxing Federation title from American Shawn Porter last month via a majority decision in California.

Promoter Eddie Hearn, managing director of Matchroom Sport states that Brook's upcoming title defense set for Dec. 6 is in serious doubt because of the incident. He added that they will first assess the boxer's injury and hope that he will be able to return to training afterwards.

Brook is reportedly being lined up to Bolton-born boxer Amir Khan but any official confirmation is yet to be made. Hearn has tried to tempt Khan with a £3 millon offer but failed. However, it is speculated that Brook's recent victory over the IBF crown will increase the chances of the fight happening.

This is the second time Special K has been involved in a stabbing incident. In 2007, Brook was stabbed in the side and buttocks by multiple men after leaving a nightclub.

Four weeks prior to the incident, fellow boxer Jami Moore was shot in both legs during a training session in Marbella with Matthew Macklin.
