Badminton News: China Dominates the Early Stage of the BCA Indonesia Open 2016

Chinese badminton players on Tuesday dominated the first round of the ongoing BCA Indonesia Open 2016 at the Istola Galera Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.

China's third-seeded Li Xuerui got the better of the 18-year-old  Ruselli Hartawan, who ranks No. 82nd. The 2012 London Olympics gold medalist needed 42 minutes to wrap up the match with a 16-21, 21-8, 21-11.

25-year-old Li was a back-to-back champion of the Jakarta-based badminton event. She defeated German Juliane Schenk 21-16, 21-17, 21-19 in their 2013 finals encounter. She also defeated Thailand's  Ratchanok Intanon with a two straight set 21-13, 21-13 victory in 2014 to claim her second Indonesia Open title.

Wang Yihan, the third-highest rank women shuttler won Hong Kong-born Canadian Michelle Li without dropping a set. The three-time Asian champion finished off her 24-year-old opponent with a 21-19, 21-18 triumph that lasted 47 minutes.

Wang Shixian, defeated the current world No. 14, Bae Yeon Ju, in a hard-fought 21-12, 15-12, 21-12 match. The incumbent world No. 6 and won the match in one hour and eight minutes.

Sun Yu and He Bingjiao also recorded victorious in their respective first round matches. Yu defeated the tournament's defending champion and reigning world No. 2 Ratchanok Intanon 21-15, 21-18. While Bingjiao outlasted Minatsu Mitani of Japan 21-16, 17-21, 21-12.

China has also been successful in the mixed doubles event.  Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei, Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong, Xu Chen and Ma Jin, Liu Yuchen and Tang Jinhua all defeated their respective opponents in the first round of the competition.
