Withings Launches Security Camera, Sensor for Home

French consumer electronics company, Withings, has launched the "Withings Home" at the ongoing Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in Berlin.
Withings Home is a wide-angle, hi-definition camera capable of observing any space in a house, and able to monitor movement and audio events, as well.

The device also monitors a room's humidity, temperature and the presence of volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, and notifies the homeowner of high levels of toxins.
Withing argues that people receive less than the amount of fresh air they need in their homes. It said Withing Home can monitor high amounts of household chemicals to aid its home owners manipulate air quality in their homes.
Withing Home can also be used as an early warning device that detects a sudden and potentially dangerous rise in VOC levels.
The Withings Home's orientation can be adjusted magnetically with the basic curved stand included in the package. The stand allows the user to point the camera up or down to get a better view of the room.
The Withings Home can be connected using Bluetooth, which has support for the low-power consuming Bluetooth LE, It can be connected to the Internet with an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.
The device is equipped with a camera with a 135-degree viewing angle endowed with a 5MP sensor that lets the user to zoom in the image digitally.
The camera, which also has night vision capabilities, is always recording. But if users intend to have a little more privacy, the ever-watchful eye of the Home can be covered by twisting the casing of the device.
The device, which costs US$219.95, will be available through Withings.com, Amazon, Apple stores and other retail partners.
