Speculation about NBA free agent Jeremy Lin's future just got more interesting, as rumors linked the point guard to the Houston Rockets.

The Rockets recently hired Mike D'Antoni to be their head coach, and already analysts are talking about a "Linsanity" reunion. D'Antoni was coaching the New York Knicks in 2012 when Lin became an overnight superstar.

According to sportswriter Chris Baldwin, Lin and D'Antoni remained in contact after they parted ways, and "their bond remains strong."

But the question is whether that bond is strong enough to overcome the way Houston treated Lin during his first stint with the team. The Rockets disrespected Lin when they ran a marketing campaign to woo Carmelo Anthony, posting pictures of the Knicks star wearing Lin's number 7.

Baldwin also wrote that if Lin Joins James Harden in the backcourt, "D'Antoni would have the chance of creating the NBA's most dangerous offense," and that "Lin could lead the league in assists."

There are better point guards on the market, but not many. Hoops Hype ranked Lin as the third best option this offseason, behind Mike Conley and Rajon Rondo, but ahead of the likes of Deron Williams and Brandon Jennings.

Analyst Darren Yuvan wrote on SB Nation that "if the Rockets can't get Conley, I take Lin over proven team cancer Rondo any day."

The Rockets' is not the only coaching situation that has inspired speculation about Lin. When the Brooklyn Nets hired Kenny Atkinson earlier this spring, analysts jumped at the opportunity to point out his connection to "Linsanity" as an assistant coach on D'Antoni's Knicks staff.

Lin also recently made the World Fame 100 list, which ESPN director of sports analytics, Ben Alamar, crafted using factors such as endorsements and Google searches. Lin is the 14th NBA player on the list, appearing at number 60 overall.
