Researchers from the University of Utah found out that 3D films have almost the same thrill as 2D films.

Sheila Crowell, one of the researchers, said that 2D films are just as equally effective in eliciting emotional responses as 3D films.

To come up with this study, researchers studied the emotional state of their 408 subjects like palm sweating, breathing and cardiovascular responses.

Researchers let the participants watch a five minute clip of My Bloody Valentine, Despicable Me, Tangles and Polar Express in 3D and 2D.

They let the participants watch the films randomly balancing the pairs based from the films watched, format and order of presentation of the films.

Through this, researchers compared the emotional responses, effect of the format and viewing order of the participants.

Despite this, the researchers also found differences between physiological reactions to the films like the palm sweating response the participants gave during a thrilling scene in one of the 3D clips.

This is because of the high quality 3D content of the film that has a larger variety of 3D effects than others, researchers admitted.

In support with the findings of the researchers, the thrill seeking ability of the participants did not alter the psychological and physiological responses to 3D viewing

They believe that personality difference did not alter their results that 2D films are as effective as 3D films.

Crowell believes that their study also showed that 3D films are more of a novelty than a thrilling experience.

She added that that this is a good news who could not wear a 3D glasses or do not want to spend more money to watch a 3D film.
