China has said it does not consider the recently signed Chabahar Port project deal between India and Iran as an attempt to undermine its Gwadar port project or the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Pakistan. Instead Bejing thinks that these projects can complement each other to override the ongoing economic sluggishness in the region.

China's Premier Li Keqiang rejected the notion that the Chabahar project could be a major stumbling block to Beijing's ambitious to connect dozens of countries for trade.
Li said Beijing might even benefit from this project. He noted that economic progress in the region could happen only through mutual understanding of "our shared goals and objectives."
Despite the Li's comments, experts have said that sealing the Chabahar Port project deal was India's 'defining moment' to break free from China's encirclement or its much talked about "string of pearls" strategy.
Experts believe that China's pursuit of building port projects in India's neighboring countries (including Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) is aimed at encircling New Delhi on all sides economically and militarily. China's ambition has allegedly stroked huge security concerns in India.
Experts claim that had China been able to snatch the Chabahar Port from India, it would have given a further boost to Beijing's ambition to encircle India.
