Saina got the better of the 17-year-old world No. 53 Fitriani Fitriani of Indonesia in two straight sets 21-11, 21-10. She wrapped up the victory in just 32 minutes and booked a quarterfinal matchup against the tourney's top seed and reigning BWF world No. 1 Carolina Marin of Spain.
Saina, who is looking to claim her fourth Indonesia Open crown, has a 4-2 advantage in her head-to-head matchup against Marin.
Meanwhile, the current world No. 3 Wang Yihan beat world No. 26 Line Kjaersfeldt of Denmark 21-13, 18-21, 21-12 to advance to the quarterfinals stage of the competition. Wang failed to close the match in a perfect two set victory as the 22-year-old Copenhagen-based Kjaersfeldt won the second game but only to fall short in the third.
Wang will be facing the seventh-ranked player in the world Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea. Sung defeated Xiaoyu Liang of Singapore in their second round match 21-17, 21-19.
In their ten meetings, the 2011 World Championship Chinese winner has the edge in her head-to-head matchup over Sung. Wang, who is looking to win her second Indonesia Open title, has won seven matches compared to the South Korean's three triumphs.
