A 14-year-old girl was arrested on Thursday morning for allegedly attempting to kill her mother and nine-year-old brother by burning their house down in an overnight fire in Port Richey.
Deputies from Paso County, Florida took into custody a seventh-grade girl accused of burning the family home, which was reportedly prompted by her being upset over having been disciplined at bed time. Authorities believe that the fire started at around 2 a.m. The girl has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, as well as arson.

Earlier, authorities from the fire department responded to a call urging the investigation of a burning house. Upon arriving at the scene, the girl's mother sought the help of the firefighters to locate her daughter. She told them that she managed to escape the burning house with her son when they both heard the fire alarm. Repeated searches of the home were conducted by the responding firefighters, but the girl could not be found. The 14-year-old was then discovered nearby and arrested by the authorities.
Investigators disclosed that the girl's mother allegedly received a text message from the 14-year-old, who apologized for the fire. Tampa Bay Times authorities disclosed that the seventh-grader recently visited sitescreepypasta.com and souleater.com. These websites have been regarded as two of the online platforms frequently visited by fans of the 'Slender Man'.
Earlier this year, two 12-year-old girls from Wisconsin were arrested by authorities due to reports of their involvement in the alleged stabbing of another 12-year-old, who nearly succumbed to the injuries inflicted. Both suspects testified that their actions were influenced by their desire to please 'Slender Man'. One of the 12-year-olds reportedly stated that she and her friend were endeavoring to become "proxies" for 'Slender Man', which is a fictional character commonly incorporated in various online horror stories.
Detective Daniel Toner shared with Tampa Bay Times that the present case has yet to be conclusively classified as a 'Slender Man' inspired act. However, investigators are seriously considering the heavy influence of the blogs and videos posted on the aforementioned websites.
The 14-year-old suspect has been identified as a student at Chasco Middle School. At present, she is held at Pasco juvenile assessment center. Investigators will be meeting with the state's attorney to decide on the next phase of the case.
