Defense lawyers disputed the presence of television cameras during court trial on a theater shooting incident in Colorado citing that it would violate the defendant's right to a fair trial, reports state on Friday.

Attorneys for shooting suspect James Holmes argued in court on Friday that media coverage, especially those that would televise the hearings may result to witness intimidation causing an unfair trial for their client.

They also cited that having the trial covered on TV will expose jurors and lawyers to possible death threats citing that the broadcast will be just a source of entertainment.

It could also generate a number of problems and will not even improve the public's opinion of the Colorado court.

"The court should take pause before transforming this workplace into a 'set' for the entertainment of the public, which will most certainly detract from the solemnity of these proceedings," defenses lawyer stated in a filing, dated on Thursday but was released on Friday.

Last month, several media outlets including a Denver radio network and the CourtTV cable channel have filed a request for the court to allow a single TV camera and a sound system in the courtroom to aid in the coverage of the trial that was scheduled to begin December 8.

In a separate request, the Denver Post have filed for court to allow a still photographer during the trial who would feed pictures from the proceedings to them and other print media outlets such as the Associated Press.

Holmes' case became the talk of the town after 12 people were killed and 70 people were wounded during his shooting rampage in July 2012.

Over 400 moviegoers were present at the theater when the incident happened in a suburban area in Denver.

He entered a not guilty plea for multiple counts of murder and attempted murder due to insanity after prosecutors call for a death penalty.
