Tech company ASUS unveiled its newest creations at the 201 Computex conference in Taiwan. Headlining the company's wide range of new products is the ZenBook 3, the third-generation model of its family of ultraportable notebook computers.

ASUS claims that the ZenBook 3 is thinner, faster, and lighter compared to its Apple counterpart. The ZenBook 3 sports a 12.5-inch display, measures 11.9mm thick, and thanks to its aerospace-grade aluminum alloy chassis, the notebook only weighs around two pounds. In comparison, the 12-inch Retina MacBook weighs 2.03 pounds and is 13.1mm thick.
The ZenBook 3's display supports resolution of up to 1920 x 1080, it is also scratch resistant and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The ultra-thin notebook has a slim bezel design which provides an 82 percent screen-to-body ratio, according to Mac Rumors.
Under the hood, the ZenBook 3 is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor and has a 16GB RAM clocked at 2133MHz. It can be configured to support up to 1TB of PCIe 3.0-based flash storage, as well as a quad-speaker provided b Harman Kardon.
Just like the Retina MacBook, the Asus ZenBook 3 sports a single USB-C port which can be utilized for connecting peripherals and for charging. For users who plan to connect more than one peripherals to the ZenBook 3, ASUS included a dongle with USB-C, USB 3.0, and HDMI ports on the package. A larger universal dock is also available for users who need more connectivity options.
One of the biggest hurdles faced by manufacturers in designing ultra-thin devices is heat dispersion. ASUS ditched the fanless design and instead adopted a new cooling system that features a fan that is just 3mm thick. The ZenBook 3 has a battery pack that can deliver up to nine hours of power. The notebook also supports fast-charging technology which ASUS claims can recharge the battery from zero to 60 percent in just 49 minutes.
According to BGR, the top-range model of the ZenBook 3 with the Intel Core i7 processor costs $1,999. The base model of the notebook with an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage space costs $999. The ZenBook 3 will hit the market in the third quarter of the year.
