Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows landed number 1 at the weekend box office, grossing $35.3 million.
However, the figure is a pittance compared to the first Ninja Turtles reboot in 2014, which took home $65 million to gross over $493 million at the international box office.

"In 2014, people were running out to see Ninja Turtles out of nostalgia for the past movies and the TV show," Jeff Bock, box office analyst for Exhibitor Relations said. However, Bock explains that fans won't be any enthusiastic to watch another movie every two years.
"This is a lesson for Hollywood, which is suffering with sequels this summer," Bock continued.
Landing on number 2 is latest installment in the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse, which grossed $22.3 million in its second weekend. The film has already grossed $116.5 million.
Romantic drama Me Before You, which topbills Emilia Clarke of Game of Thrones and Sam Claflin The Hunger Games debuts at number 3 with $18.3 million. The adaption of Jojo Moyes' best-selling novel provides a refreshing choice amidst action-packed, typical big summer releases.
Meanwhile, Alice Through the Looking Glass continues to perform disappointingly, landing at the fourth slot at taking only $10.7 million in its second weekend for a total of $50.8 million total.
The animated Angry Birds Movie rounded out the top five with $9.8 million, taking $86.7 million in three weeks in the domestic.
Meanwhile, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping failed to make it into top five on its debut weekend, placing on at No. 8 with $4.6 million. The movie is a pop music mockumentary from the comedy trio known as the Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer).
