Alice's success in China has definitely improved Disney's revenue in the Chinese market, so far taking nearly 5 billion renminbi, or $770 million, for this year alone, film industry consulting firm Artisan Gateway reports.

Since its opening date on May 27, Alice already grossed almost $50 million, about the same amount it earned in the North American market.

Rovio Entertainment's The Angry Birds Movie meanwhile, landed the third spot. The movie adaptation of the popular video game earned $72 million for its first 17 days in theaters.

Rounding up the top five are Marvel's Captain America: Civil War and Allegiant.

The Marvel franchise is nearing its run in Chinese theatres and so far grossed over $191 million in tickets sales. Summit Entertainment's Allegiant, meanwhile, grossed $18.5 million.

Opening last Wednesday is Legendary Entertainment's Warcraft, which already earned $20 million in advance tickets, the company said.

Legendary was purchased earlier this year by China's Dalian Wanda Group.

Warcraft, will open on Friday in the United States. It is the movie version of the popular video games from Blizzard Entertainment.
