Recent rumors are out that Liverpool is close to snagging Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuaín from Napoli as Jürgen Klopp eyes drastic improvement in his team's offensive options next season.

Caught Offside reported that the Reds are "poised to complete the signing" of the 28-year-old frontman even as the Argentine is still competing for his home country in the ongoing Copa América Centenario tournament in the United States.

If the deal pushes through, then it is said to be representing a "major coup" for the Merseyside residents this summer as the team will be locked and loaded going into the new English top flight season in August.

At his age, Higuaín, who led the Italian Serie A via a wide margin in goals scored this season with 36 in 35 appearances, is still considered as a player in his prime and could give Klopp and the Reds more than a few seasons of scoring domination moving forward.

Meanwhile, Liverpool blog This is Anfield indicated that a photograph showing Klopp and Higuaín's brother-agent was taken during Argentina's 2-1 win over Chile at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Monday night.

The sighting is said to be one important indication that a transfer deal moving Higuaín to the Premier League is imminent.

The article mentioned that according to beIN Sports, "the deal should be complete within two weeks' time, pending Napoli's sale of Gonzalo Higuaín to Liverpool which should go through very soon".

Higuaín just finished his third season with Napoli after he was acquired in the summer of 2013 from La Liga giants Real Madrid for a fee of €40 million. He was signed by Partenopei for five years and had been one of the most productive goalscorers in the Italian top flight even since.

In three seasons with Gli Azzurri, he has scored 91 goals in a total of 146 games in all competitions.
