"First and foremost, our goal that we had to reach with this show was to basically make a good show that would get a whole new generation into Voltron," Lauren Montgomery, Voltron: Legendary Defender showrunner, told IGN.
"And then we, as fans of the original, added a second part to the goal," he added. "Which was to also make something that we felt was very true to the original."
However, Montgomery emphasized that Voltron: Legendary Defender will not be a copycat of the original 1980s animated series, but will have hints of the original concept.
"We're absolutely making a show we think they can appreciate," Joaquim Dos Santos, another Voltron: Legendary Defender showrunner said.
Voltron: Legendary Defender tells the story of five ordinary teenagers who discover the path to an unknown power.
Later, they find themselves traveling to the planet Arus and meet Princess Allura, the royal princess, and a member of the Voltron force. There, they discovered they are the chosen ones to steer Voltron.
Voltron: Legendary Defender will premiere on June 10 on Netflix with 13 episodes.
