An unprepared California robber decided to use his own pants as an alternative to the bag he forgot to bring for the crime. Police on Saturday caught red-handed a man stuffing stolen cash in his pants.

A man suspected for robbing a bank in Merced, California was caught red-handed when he was seen stuffing the money he stole down his pants during his getaway. He was seen adjusting his pants to conceal the stolen cash a few blocks away from the bank he robbed on Saturday afternoon at around 1:40 p.m.

The culprit, identified as 25-year-old Shawn Lee Canfield, was arrested on the same day by Merced police officers along G Street and El Portal Drive, which was near the scene of the crime and area where he was seen stuffing the stolen cash inside his pants.

Officers then led him back to Chase bank where a teller positively identified Canfield as the man who handed her a note demanding cash from their bank.

After he was given the cash, which amounted to almost $3,000, Canfield hurriedly left the bank, reports stated.

The heavily-tattooed robbery suspect was led to the police station for interrogation where most of the stolen money--around $2,414--fell off of his pants while he was walking up the stairs.

The authorities then found the rest of the stolen cash when $334 fell from Canfield's pants after being asked to stand up.

The authorities later learned that the total amount of the fallen stolen cash during the heist was $2,748.

Canfield then confessed to the robbery. He explained that he only did it because he needed the money for his trip to Colorado to visit his mother.

No casualties were reported during the crime as the robber quietly left the scene after receiving the money.

After police took his prints, he was booked into the Merced County Jail for burglary and robbery charges.
