Moore had featured in "Criminal Minds" since Season 1. Although he emphasized that he is set to pursue new projects, the actor has not ruled out a return to the show in the future.
Rodriguez will be joining other cast members including Thomas Gibson, Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Matthew Gray Gubler, and Kirsten Vangness. Executive producer and showrunner Erica Messer teased that the series executives are ecstatic to have Rodriguez on board.
In an interview with Deadline, Messer said that the team is happy to introduce Rodriguez and added that fans will be treated to a wonderful storyline set out for this new character as well as the BAU team as the show moves onto the 12th season.
Glenn Geller, President of CBS Entertainment, added that he's one of the biggest fans of Rodriguez and is thrilled to welcome him back to the network.
Rodriguez recently featured on "Jane the Virgin" and "Empire." The actor spent 11 seasons on "CSI: Miami" and his other credits include films like "XXL Magic Mike," "Magic Mike," and "I Can Do Bad All By Myself."
The 41-year-old star briefly featured on "Empire" as a love interest for Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson). Watch the footage below for more information on the upcoming "Criminal Minds" Season 12.
