A Chinese couple completed a 20,000-kilometer drive from east to west in a quest to bring 'home' their Maxus van to Birmingham where it originated, reports state.

Shanghai's Yaoguo Chen and Jie Wu began their epic journey on July 1 and concluded it on August 26 as they drove 20,000 kilometers, or 12,427 miles, from their Chinese residence to bring 'home' their beloved vehicle to the western city.

For two years, the couple, both 48-years-old, planned their amazing trip which took them to different parts of Asia and Europe particularly the countries of Mongolia, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Holland, and France.

On the last day of their journey, the couple finally reached Great Britain's second largest city and the original home of their LDV Maxus van.

The Maxus, which was originally a joint project with South Korea's Daewoo, was introduced in 2005 by the GAZ Group.

However, the South Korean vehicle manufacturer went into receivership in 2000 and was later taken over by General Motors.

The GAZ Group then purchased the existing equipment to build the vehicle and shipped it from Daewoo's Poland plant to Birmingham.

In 2008, the Birmingham-based Russian owner had decided to pull the plug on LDV because of a lack of long term investment and a worldwide recession.

After several attempts to rescue the company in 2009, assets were sold by the company's administration.

Two years later, China's Eco Concept, which was based in Shanghai, was able to acquire the LDV's intellectual property rights.

"Owning a Maxus is the big reason we wanted to come to Birmingham," Jie Wu stated, explaining that they had quit their jobs at Abbot and Shanghai Money Weekly to embark on the long but wondrous trip.

Unfortunately, the original LDV plant is no more than an abandoned establishment now, though the couple was still thrilled to be able to see several parts of England.
