(Photo : Pixabay) Just south of the ancient city of Petra lies a a hidden masive structure discovered by drones.
A colossal monument that used to stand thousands of years ago was detected in the ancient city of Petra in Jordan with the help of satellite imagery. This drone aircraft obtained data and images where a team of scientists and researchers have analyzed these new measurements from ground observatories.

The monument possesses two sides comparable to the size of an Olympic sized swimming pool and even twice that length of that for the other two sides. The structure appears to be a platform marked by a flagstone circle, similar to ancient ceremonial ground. This evidence revealed by these markings also indicate a once standing massive staircase near a row of columns. This rectangle building measures about 28 feet by each sides and also once possessed a platform with a door opening to the east. The site is also located just half a mile from the 2,500 year old ancient city, which is the only remarkable structure unlike any other.
There are also some ancient pottery uncovered from the site that is dated about 2,200 years old.
This remarkable finding surprised archaeologists as this ancient structure was literally hiding in plain sight down south the ancient city of Petra. This region was first explored and mapped out by Johann Burckhardt in 1812.
According to Christopher Tuttle from the Council of American Overseas Research Centers, over 200 years of research in Petra, it is possible that this site was already known by archaeologists that time, however, it has not been systematically studied, mapped out or even written anything about it. Working on Petra for more 20 years, this can be legitimately called as a new discovery.
This ancient structure was first observed by a telltale faint outline that formed a rectangular shape across the landscape where details are later added by satellite observations. This new discovery can also shed new clues and information about the ancient customs and culture of this ancient civilization.
Petra was inhabited by the Nabataeans thousands of years ago where people flock to this ancient city up to this day to see the majestic ancient relics and structures from the ancient world.
Scientists also add how this monument was most probably abandoned during the 7th century CE during the end of the Byzantine period, as this would have served as a public facility for ceremonies or even religious ones. If all of these are confirmed, this would become the second largest ancient structure in the world of this type.
This new study is published in the journal, The American Schools of Oriental Research.
