He spoke of the latest tragedy that occurred in Orlando, Florida over the weekend which killed 50 people and left 53 more in need of medical help.

O'Brien, 53, acknowledged that he has tried not to bore his audience with his opinions on controversial, nationwide issues. But as a father, he pointed out that he simply does not understand why ordinary citizens of America are allowed to buy and own a semi-automatic assault rifle.

"These are weapons of war, and they have no place in civilian life," he said. "Nobody I know or have ever met in my entire life should have access to a weapon that can kill so many people so quickly."

O'Brien stressed that the increasing number of lives lost by "one person's demented rage will never make sense."

Omar Mateen, the shooter who attack a gay night club in Orlando on Saturday, used an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle - the same weapon used by the attackers in the San Bernardino shooting in December last year.

The Pulse Night Club shooting has been labeled as the worst mass shooting attack in the US. The tragic incident caused outrage globally, especially among the LGBT community. Openly gay personalities like Cooper Anderson delivered an emotional tribute to the victims during a live broadcast on CNN.

Days before, Youtube star/singer Christina Gimmie (The Voice) was also shot dead by a gunman while performing at a concert in Orlando.
