About 250 Chinese soldiers have allegedly intruded into the disputed Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh state, according to defense sources in New Delhi. The alleged intrusion is said to have taken place on June 9, at the eastern district of Kameng.

However, the Chinese army did not open fire and returned after spending nearly three hours near the Indian border, sources in New Delhi said.

The Chinese troop's alleged intrusion comes at a time when Beijing has hardened its opposition to India's bid for Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG) membership. This is the first time that Chinese troops have crossed the Indian border this year. Beijing and New Delhi are yet to issue any official statement on the incident.

The Chinese government maintains that China has a territorial right over Arunachal Pradesh, which has been part of the Indian union since India's independence. The history of the territorial disputes dates back to 1914 when the Tibetan government ceded Arunachal Pradesh state to British India under the Shimla treaty. However, the Chinese government has never recognized this treaty and still claims that Arunachal Pradesh is part of China.

The Indian government, on its part, has always stated that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India. Both countries fought a full-fledged war in 1962 to settle their border dispute. However, the border dispute is still unresolved and is a source of constrain in their bilateral relationship.

Experts claim that the unresolved border dispute has lead to a cold war scenario between the two countries. Although China-India bilateral relationship has improved immensely over the years, mistrust continues to exist between the two countries.
