The newly appointed head coach of Shandong Luneng Taishan, Felix Magath, has made a commitment on Tuesday to haul up the three-time Chinese Super League conquerors out of the relegation zone.
"I am glad to take over Luneng. I have abundant and successful experiences in coaching big clubs, saving several German clubs from relegation. I hope to continue that in Luneng," the 62-year-old said when he was officially presented to the media Tuesday afternoon.

"I cannot assure you a title for Luneng based on its current status, but I will try hard, and I hope to continue Luneng's glory," the German national added.
The Shandong Luneng Group-owned football club formally named Magath as the team's new manager on June 8, a day after the 54-year-old Brazilian Mano Menezes resigned from the position following a string of poor performances.
Appointed head coach of Luneng in December 2015, Menezes was able to guide the Jinan, Shandong-based Chinese outfit to a quarterfinal finish in the AFC Champions League.
Luneng, which conquered China's highest tier of professional football's championship titles in 2006, 2008 and 2010, only managed to win two matches after 12 rounds in the ongoing season of the CSL. The team now ranks 15th in the 16-team league, just above Changchun Yatai, which sits at the bottom of the table.
Magath is one of Germany's most successful coaches. He lead Bayern Munich to back-to-back Bundesliga titles in the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons, before guiding Wolfsburg to domestic victory in the 2008-2009 season. The veteran football tactician is best known for his demanding training methods and discipline, which earned him a lot of admiration as well as criticism.
"I do not think there is any idea of most popular football philosophy. My philosophy is to improve my players constantly and win the game one by one," he said.
