Carolina Panthers' coach Ron Rivera is more likely to receive a warning from the NFL after inactive player Cam Newton joined the team's huddle during last Sunday's opener.

Newton was unable to contain himself during the Sunday game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and joined his team's offensive huddle. The official rule book says that this stunt can be considered as a violation.

The rule book states that "During any timeout, including an intermission, all playing rules continue in force. Representatives of either team are prohibited from entering the field, unless they are incoming substitutes, or team attendants or trainers entering to provide for the welfare of a player, and any game-type activities are prohibited on the Field of Play."

The consequence of the said violation will be a warning for Rivera, says a league source. There shouldn't be any penalty or fine for the Panthers.

However, further violations from the team could cause greater consequences.

The Panthers won the Sunday's opener 20-14 with backup quarterback Derek Anderson scoring his first NFL victory in four years. The veteran completed 24 of the 34 passes for 230 yards and scored two game-winning touchdowns.

Newton was held out by the Panthers in order to give him more time to heal from his injury. He suffered a hair line fracture in his ribs during this year's preseason. He also spent the offseason recovering from an ankle surgery.

Sources claim that dual-threat quarterback tried to convince Rivera in letting him play in week one. However, it didn't push through, leaving Anderson to step-in as substitute.

The Sunday's opener was Newton's first missed game in his professional career. The Panthers' young superstar had started 49 straight games and has appeared during last season's playoffs.

The two-time Pro Bowl Quarterback is expected to play against the Detroit Lions next week.
