The treacherous courses are seldom conquered since they are increasingly difficult with each stage that they complete.
There have been several highlights from this season, which include having the first female to ever complete one of the obstacle courses. Kacy Catanzaro was the first female to clear one of the obstacle courses but was ultimately eliminated during the semi-final round.
Within the coming weeks, contestants from Japan and Europe will compete with American contestants to become the first contestant to reach the top of the Mt. Midoriyama obstacle course.
Within its five-year history, no contestant has ever reached the top of the fabled obstacle course but there have been multiple contestants who have appeared each year, only to be eliminated by one of the formidable obstacle courses.
The season is set to wrap up within the coming weeks.
Many contestants have been known to train for several months, and in some cases years, before they make any attempt to take on the popular obstacle course.
TV personalities, stuntment, former gymnasts and school teachers make up the contestant pool.
There are a wide variety of ages with some contestants in their late teens to their 50s successfully completing the challenging courses.
