History has been made. The LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers are the new NBA champions, ending more than five decades of major professional sports championship drought for Cleveland and becoming the first NBA team to ever come back and win the Finals from a 3-1 series deficit.
The Eastern Conference champs successfully dethroned the league's defending champion Golden State Warriors after emerging victorious in game seven of the 2016 NBA Finals, with a hard-fought 93-89 win at the Oracle Arena on Sunday night. It was first NBA championship title in franchise history and the first sports title since 1964 for "The Forest City."

The four-time MVP James finished the last game of the season with a spectacular triple-double of 27 points, 11 assists, and 11 rebounds, adding three blocked shots and two steals in almost 47 minutes of playing time. He was unanimously named Finals MVP for his brilliant performance.
"I came back for a reason," the 31-year-old native of Akron said. "I came back to bring a championship to our city. I knew what I was capable of doing. I knew what I learned in the last couple years that I was gone, and I knew if I had to -- when I came back -- I knew I had the right ingredients and the right blueprint to help this franchise get back to a place that we've never been. That's what it was all about."
James displayed with remarkable intensity during the entire series. The Cavs were trailing 3-1 and the 12-time All-Star almost single-handedly took on the task of staving off elimination, as he poured in back-to-back 41 big points performances in games five and six to lead the Cavaliers in forcing a decisive game seven.
"I'm coming home with what I said I was going to do," James said, adding, "I can't wait to get off that plane, hold that trophy up and see all our fans at the terminal."
