After the intense summers, the soothing rains of monsoon provide relief to China. However, this year's "Plum Rains," as they call monsoons in China definitely went from bad to worse. The intense rains that caused massive flooding in Southern China claimed 25 lives and displaced almost 50,000 residents.

The number of deaths might rise from 25 to 31 because six people are still missing.
The Civil Affairs Ministry of China announced during the weekend that more than four million people in 10 provinces have greatly suffered from China's severe flooding. Relief efforts for the victims have been doubled, both local and national governments will offer economic assistance.
According to Aljazeera News, persistent rains this month have resulted in 3.7 billion yuan ($550 million) in economic losses. Unfortunately, this might not be the worst case scenario for Southern China because the monsoon rains this year will become even heavier.
Northern China must get ready, as the monsoon rains will move to the north in the next few days. The Yangtse River has overflowed and according to experts, this year will prove to be very daunting for China. People living near rivers and other bodies of water in Northern China have been informed that they might need to prepare for evacuation when the intense rains begin in their area.
People have been seen pushing their cars, which are floating in the high water. Many other cars have been severely damaged and washed away in many parts of Southwestern China.
The provinces of Guizhou, Guangxi, Fujian, Jiangxi and Guangdong have been the most severely affected. In Guangdong alone, almost 10,000 residents have been displaced. The Liujiang River in Liuzhou, Guangxi has caused a lot of problems in the area, as the force from the river bank's outburst affected nearby residents.
Guizhou province has the worst casualty numbers. An estimated 29,000 people were displaced after the massive rains in Guizhou. Last Friday alone had 134 millimetres of rain after a few hours of heavy downpour. Three people have been swept away by the floods in Guizhou.
