Royal Caribbean Holds Naming Ceremony for 'Ovation of the Seas' in Tianjin, China

American global cruise company Royal Caribbean officially named the Ovation of the Seas after it completed its Global Odyssey cruise by arriving in Tianjin, China, where the ceremony was held last Friday (June 24).

According to Royal Caribbean Blog, this is the first time the company held a naming ceremony in China. Furthermore, Ovation of the Seas also features the first Chinese God Mother - actress Fan Bingbing - who personally attended and presided over the celebration.

In traditional fashion, a champagne bottle was broken on the ship's hull was done to signify good fortune.

Ovation of the Seas weighs nearly 169,000 tons and can carry up to 4,905 passengers and 1,500 crew members.

"We are excited to bring our newest and most technologically advanced ship to China. The unprecedented first-at-sea experiences will provide an incredible vacation adventure to our guests in the region," Michael Bayley, Royal Caribbean International's president and CEO, said.

Royal Caribbean now owns the largest fleet in Tianjin, following the arrival of Ovation of the Seas. Dr. Zinan Liu, President of Royal Caribbean International - China and North Asia Pacific, committed that Chinese guests are now able to enjoy a "wider variety of world-class cruise experiences," as this ship will "continue to take cruisers to new heights with our extraordinary activities, creative entertainment and diversified dining options."

"Chinese consumers have grown to expect the best the world has to offer, and this ship meets that standard like no other - this is a cruise from the future," Bayley added.

The Florida-based company continues its commitment to strategically teaming up with the Tianjin Marine Talent Institute. It has established training facilities in the region, creating more than 100,000 jobs.
