Wanda Cinema Line has officially brought Dolby Cinema to China, with its first site in Asia at Dalian Kaide Heping Square in Dalian, China, which opened last Thursday (June 23), showing the Legendary/Wanda-backed blockbuster Warcraft: The Beginning.

The two companies aim to establish 100 Dolby Cinemas across the country over the next five years. Other planned locations include Beijing and Chengdu.

"The speed with which we've been able to bring these first four sites into reality with Wanda has been spectacular," Bob Borchers, Dolby's senior vice president, told China Daily. "I think it shows the pace to reach the market is growing."

In a statement last Thursday, John Zeng, President of Wanda Cinema Line, also revealed that it will be collaborating with Dolby in movie production as well as working with the exhibition side. According to China Film Insider, Dolby said it has already been working with some Chinese filmmakers with regard to its Atmos Sound Format and plans to extend it with Dolby Vision.

"We're working to have systems set up in China so that we can start to create local content," said Stuart Bowling, Dolby's director of content and creative relations.

Dolby Cinema, which was launched in the spring of 2015, is a product of Dolby Vision high-dynamic-range format and Dolby Atmos immersive sound. Currently, the United States has 20 Dolby Cinemas, through the AMC brand, and another 30 theaters are expected from AMC by the end of 2016.

Foreign films that are expected to be released in Dolby Cinema in China are Disney's Finding Dory, 20th Century Fox's Independence Day: Resurgence, Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, and Warner Bros.' The Legend of Tarzan.
