Famous Colossus Roller Coaster Ride Catches Fire

Fire engulfed a portion of the famous Colossus roller coaster ride last Monday at Six Flags Magic Mountain, more than three weeks after it closed down for renovation.
Firefighters who rushed to the scene said the fire charred the topmost portion of the roller coaster collapsing the tracks.

Reports said the Los Angeles County Fire Department was called to the scene at the amusement park in Santa Clarita past 1:00 pm to put out the fire
Photos posted on Twitter showed that a thick smoke was coming from the topmost portion of the ride. The elevated portion of the roller coaster's wooden tracks was also burned,
Reports said the part of the tracks completely collapsed as wooden planks began falling to the ground.
Several fire trucks were on the scene as firefighters started putting out the fire.The amusement park was closed Monday.
The popular Colossus roller coaster ride has not been in operation since August after 36 years. The amusement park officials said that the ride will be replaced by a hybrid ride called "Twisted Colossus."
Reports said contractors were disassembling the ride when the top portion caught fire. Fire Department Inspector Rick Flores said there is no information yet as to where the crew were working and what tools they were using when the fire broke out.
There were no reports of injuries and casualties when the fire broke out. The fire was contained at 2:12 pm.
The popular Colossus roller coaster ride dropped 100 feet and reached speeds of up to 60 mph during its operations.
The Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Reports said the contractors and the crew may be able to shed light on why the famous ride caught fire.
The Colossus roller coaster ride had been the most popular in the Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park when it was still in operations. Customers, mostly teenagers, lined up for a ticket to experience the extreme rollercoaster ride.
