The New York Giants lost their opening game against the Detroit Lions, 35-14, as the new NFL season went underway.

The game's first drive saw Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford throw to Calvin Johnson, who was free and able to simply jog into the end zone for a 67 yard touchdown.

Johnson would have another touchdown later in the first, as he made a diving catch when Stafford went left and threw right.

While the Lions had a great start to the 2014 season, the Giants were not as lucky.

Five minutes into the beginning of the game, Jason Pierre-Paul went down with a neck injury. He was able to walk off the field but needed x-rays. He returned in the second half.

The third quarter was highlighted with an interception by Lions' DeAndre Levy. This allowed for a quick field goal.

The Giants were able to score a one yard touchdown run, but the Lions replied with the a three yard scoring run. They capped it off with a two-point conversion to win the game in a big way.

Stafford complete his first six passes of the season in their first game, throwing 22 of 32 for a total of 346.

Manning on the other hand, went 18 out of 33 for 163 yards, and two interceptions.

The Giants offensive team had failed to score a touchdown in their preseason games. Now, it seems they continue the difficulty they had from before.

Manning stepped up and took the blame for both of his interceptions. "Just a bad decision by me," he said.

The Giants will be facing the Arizona Cardinals next.

"The first game is when you learn the most," Manning said, as he and his squad look to improve before their next game.
