According to the BWF, Tai entered the final round with a head-to-head career matchup record of 4-7 against the current world No. 8 female badminton player. With the victory, the native of Kaohsiung, Taiwan improved to 5-7 and extended her winnings over Wang in their last three meetings this year.

Tai also won against Wang in the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open last April and last June at the BCA Indonesia Open, where she stunned the elite Chinese badminton player Wang Yihan of China in the final round to claim the title.

"I've had good results against her lately. Maybe earlier I used to lose because I was inexperienced and I was rushed, I played too fast and didn't think too much," Tai said. "I realized there's no point in rushing. Now I know what to do to handle my nerves."

"It was a great feeling out there, to be a local player and to win the tournament. I'm happy to be in front of so many fans who were cheering for me," the 22-year-old Chinese Taipei badminton ace added.

Meanwhile, men's singles event fifth seed Tien Chen Chou of the host country won over the unseeded Qiao Bin of China in two-straight sets 21-18, 21-17 to claim the title, according to Fox Sports Asia.
