Destiny, Activision's US $500 million investment, has already received more than 180 awards including Best Console Game, Best Action Game, Best Online Multiplayer at Gamescom last year and today's launch will determine if the game is worth the hype among many other things.
More than any other new intellectual property (IP), it is the most pre-ordered game to date where the game's beta version became a record breaking phenomenon, serving the most players ever.

There were around 4.6 million players who are logged in to during Destiny's beta run and while it was at its peak, a massive 850,000 players were logged into the test build, all at the same time, according to Activision's statistics.
Activision is extremely hopeful that Destiny will transcend video games and move to other platforms which is reminiscent of Bungie's Halo series.
Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision celebrates the launch by looking into the future of the IP where it is highly likely that the record breaking game will be an instant icon in pop culture.
Hirshberg expresses that Destiny has been a truly labor of love where it is an incredible creative journey at Activision and Bungie. His team feels that they are blessed with an opportunity to launch something colossal not just propelling something into the gaming landscape but also into the pop cultural landscape. He also says that arriving at the launch day greeted with great support and enthusiasm from fans and retailers is absolutely exciting.
According to Pete Parsons, Bungie's studio chief operating officer, Bungie loves to tell stories about epic tales where the player is at the center of legends and villains.
Parsons reminisces about the world they created with Halo where millions of gamers were attracted to it, but with Destiny, Bungie wanted the worlds to become more immense and feel more alive where the player is at the center of it all and the worlds are all connected.
Bungie is preparing to support 20 million gamers where it will attract 10 million on the first day.Destiny launches today on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
When asked about developing a possible PC version, Hirshberg says that developing for PC is a whole different animal compared to consoles but Bungie wants to make it right and of the highest possible quality.
