South Korean smartphone giant Samsung has revealed it cut thousands of jobs in China, Europe, Latin America, and Korea in 2015. However, the company continued to recruit for its research and development centers based in the Southeast Asia and Japan regions.
According to the company's latest sustainability report, Samsung downsized its workforce, cutting down more than 17,000 jobs in 2015. In Korea, some 2,500 people were laid off, and nearly 3,000 Samsung workers lost their jobs in Europe and Latin America.

Noticeably, the biggest cut came from China where 12,000 employees were let go. Samsung used to have over 60,000 employees in the mainland until 2013 when it started to struggle to get back to the top of China's ladder after startups companies like Huawei and Xiaomi took some of its market shares.
According to Android Headlines, Samsung's future in China is starting to become blurry. Last year, Samsung only has 4,500 employees in the mainland.
However, overall, Samsung is not losing employees as the report also stated that Samsung employed 325,677 people across the globe in 2015, up by 6,469 from 2014.
Furthermore, while Samsung has been cutting down jobs from Latin America, Korea, Europe and China, it has also added some 28,000 employees in the past year in Japan and Southeast Asia as it started to ramp up its production and research and development in places such as India. In fact, Samsung's Southeast Asia and Japan workforce combined comprise 35.1 percent of its total workforce, the highest for any region.
The company has established a research base in Bengaluru where testing for all its devices is being done.
